wandering tortoise :: Blog :: In My Language

March 31, 2008

The first part is in my "native language," and then the second part provides a translation, or at least an explanation. This is not a look-at-the-autie gawking freakshow as much as it is a statement about what gets considered thought, intelligence, personhood, language, and communication, and what does not.

  1. Thanks for posting this.  As someone at the Aspergers end of the autistic spectrum, I find myself engaging in many kinds of behaviours similar to those witnessed above.  Not all the time, but often enough.  I've never really been able to explain them but this video has given me a deeper understanding of myself.

    Thanks.

  2. You are certainly welcome.

I posted it because it fascinates me, rings true and resonates with my experience of reality. I am not diagnosed with anything, but autistic behavior is very familiar and comforting to me for some reason.

I have a class right now on personality theory and couldn't help but think of this woman as I consider just what the hell personality is..

    Ciao,

  3. Amazing. On language it was beaten into me at uni that a private language was impossible, but is it, it depends what you mean by language. Most people also think that rational thought is impossible without language. But it seems to me that any mental process that increases general well being is 'rational'.

  4. One thing that really strikes me about this video and this woman is that she cared to take the time to learn our language, make the video and tell us all whats up.

She has more on you tube, user name silentmiaow or doubble click the video.
